PRofile Series: Jackie Prince

East Villager, Jackie Prince, is not an old or a young soul, she's a creative one. If we could rename her, we'd call her Spunk. If she ruled the world, this girl would put Liz Lemon on the $5 bill & would arrange mandatory daily dance sessions at your office.

Please put your hands together for this edge-bright & dull-free downtown girl, Ms. Jackie Prince.

Age: 27

Hometown: Toronto

Day job: Digital Strategist

Night job: InstaDerby Founder + President

How do you juggle it all? I go to bed late, wake up early and use my free time wisely

Why New York? Because anything can happen here

Describe your working style in 3 words:  Hipster Chic (only need two words)

What’s your favorite color? Black

What does your creative process look like? Messy! I doodle and draw a lot. I make lots of notes, both digital and in notebooks

How did you come up with the InstaDerby name and constant themes and ideas behind it? I've been addicted to Instagram for two years now and always felt it was missing a contest element. I came up with the concept and couldn't think of a name. One night I was looking at old photos of my dad riding horses, back in the day, and shortly thereafter it came to me: InstaDERBY!

Dying to visit: Argentina

Currently obsessed with....? HOMELAND!

What music is playing while you are working? Lots of Alternative and Rock. Currently into Mumford & Sons' new album and Gary Clark Jr.

How do you stay creative?  I make a point to read a lot - old and new things - which is really inspiring. I also walk around NY as much as I can, and people watch - that's one of my favorite things to do. Visiting a good exhibition

How did your name/logo come about? Our designer, Ben, developed the logo with me - we thought it would be fun to incorporate a horse shoe into the name

What advice would you give someone that wants to start their own business? Idea? Know what you are getting yourself into! It's a huge commitment to start a business and there are loads of moving parts. Make sure you believe in - and are invested in the idea. I'd also recommend having a co-founder or partner - it's been very difficult to do this on my own. I've been lucky to work with some great people but at the end of the day, it's my responsibility to make my product successful

Do you have a mentor? If so, who? My dad has been extremely helpful and supportive throughout this process - he has been like a mentor to me, advising me along the way

Who do you look up to? My parents and lots of the entrepreneurs who I meet - they are extremely driven and some of them have come up with some game-changing ideas

Last fashion/accessory purchase & where? A black Alexander Wang Robyn Hobo bag from the Wang sample sale. Killer line, though!

At least once a week, I have... Chicken soup from Veselka

What’s your favorite NY bar scene? Lower East Side

Your “hood” is...  the East Village

Favorite neighborhood spot? Northern Spy Food Company

Where and what do you dance?  I mostly end up dancing at the Jane Hotel to whatever hip hop/top 40 mix is on. I also dance whenever I am eating something delicious. It's more of a shoulder twist, actually. Oh, and always in my apartment as I'm getting ready to go out..!

What’s your favorite thing about the city? Everyone can be who they are

If a close friend called you up and said they were visiting NY, where would you suggest they go? Oh man - so many places. A few are - in no particular order: L'Apicio, Mermaid Inn, La Esquina, The Smile, Miss Lily's, The Meatball Shop, Momofuku, Liquiteria, Extra Virgin. And I'd tell them to visit the MOMA - to walk off some of that food

Favorite city: I worked in London for two years before moving to NY, which is my other favorite city. Other than that, Istanbul is one of the most amazing places I've visited

If you can take something that is considered "bad" for you and make it "good", what would you change? CHOCOLATE

Favorite movie? Closer

Favorite book? The Little Prince
